James Timothy Hardin is an American blues and folk musician and composer. In addition to releasing his own documentary, some of his songs, including "If I Were a Carpenter", have become hits by other artists. Hardin grew up in Oregon and joined the Marines. He began his musical career at Greenwich Village, which led to the recording of several albums from the mid to late 1960s, and a performance at the Woodstock Festival. Hardin struggled with drug addiction for most of his adult life and the live shows are sometimes very spotty. He was planning to return when he died in the late 1980s of a heroin overdose.
