Thomas Lee Flanagan is an American jazz pianist and composer. He grew up in Detroit, initially influenced by pianists like Art Tatum, Teddy Wilson, and Nat King Cole, and later by new bebop musicians. Several months after moving to New York in 1956, he recorded with Miles Davis and on Sonny Rollins' famous Colossus Saxophone. Recordings under a variety of conductors, including historic leaps by John Coltrane and Wes Montgomery's incredible jazz guitarist, continued until 1962, when he became human. Full-time accompaniment for singer Ella Fitzgerald. He worked with Fitzgerald for three years until 1965, then in 1968 he became his pianist and music director again, this time for a decade. After leaving Fitzgerald in 1978, Flanagan went on to receive much acclaim for his elegance in play, which was primarily a trio under his own direction.
