Anthony John Abbott is a former Australian politician who served as Australia's 28th Prime Minister from 2013 to 2015 and led the Liberal Party from 2009 to 2015. He was the Leader of the Opposition from 2009 to 2013 and was a Member of Congress of Warringah from 1994 to 2019. He is currently an advisor to the Chamber of Commerce of the Government of the UK. Abbott was born in London to an Australian mother and British father, and moved to Sydney at the age of two. He studied economics and law at the University of Sydney, then attended Queen's College, Oxford as the Rhodes Scholar, where he studied philosophy, politics and economics. After graduating from Oxford, Abbott briefly trained as a Roman Catholic seminarian, then worked as a journalist, director and policy advisor. In 1992 he was appointed Director of the Australian Constitutional Monarchy, a position he held until his election to parliament in the 1994 secondary elections in Warringah.
