Wilma Pearl Mankiller is an American Cherokee activist, social worker, community promoter and the first woman to be elected as Chief Prime Minister of the Cherokee Nation. Born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, she lived on family allowance in Adair County, Oklahoma until the age of 11, when her family moved to San Francisco as part of her urbanization program.
