Zelda Fitzgerald
Zelda Fitzgerald is an American novelist, sociologist and painter. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, she was known for her good looks and humor, and was nicknamed "America's first hunter by her husband F. Scott Fitzgerald". She and Scott have become icons of the jazz age, and they are still celebrated today. The immediate success of Scott's first novel, This Side of Paradise, exposed them to high society, but their marriage was hampered by alcoholism, infidelity, and judgment. Ernest Hemingway, whom Zelda disliked, blamed him for the decline of Scott's literary output, even though his vast diary provided him with a lot of material for his novels, sometimes to the point of plagiarism. After being diagnosed with schizophrenia, she was increasingly confined to specialist clinics and the couple lived apart when Scott died suddenly in 1940. Zelda died over 7 years later in a fire at a hospital in 'Asheville, North Carolina, where she is a patient. .
