As a student, he pursued nationalist ideas, wicked patriotism and anti -Arab. Opposing the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, he fought with the Muslim Brotherhood in the Arab-Israeli war of 1948. From 1994 to 2004, he served as the first President of the Palestinian National Authority, founding the Fatah political party and spending much of his time fighting Israel. When he engaged in negotiations with Israel, he was frequently chastised by fellow Islamists and PLO members for surrendering too easily to Israeli demands.
