Atom Egoyan, is an Armenian-Canadian director, screenwriter and producer. Egoyan made a breakthrough in his career with Exotica, a film set mainly by the fictional striptease club Exotica. The critically acclaimed film was the TV series The Sweet Herfter, which he received two Oscar nominations, and his biggest commercial success was the erotic horror film Chloe. Her works often explore themes of alienation and isolation, including characters whose interactions are mediated by technology, bureaucracy, or other power structures. Egoyan's films often follow a non-linear plot structure, in which events are arranged out of sequence to elicit a specific emotional response from the audience by retaining key information. In 2008, Egoyan received the Dan David Award for "Creative Reenactment of the Past". Egoyan then received the Performing Arts Award of the Governor-General, Canada's highest honor for performing arts, in 2015 .
