Joseph Alfred Gilles Jacques Richard is a professional Canadian ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League for the Atlanta Flames, Buffalo Sabers and Quebec Nordiques. After an impressive career, Richard is considered a potential NHL superstar, but with the exception of one final season of his career, he broke his promise. He has had a troubled life both in hockey and in the future. Six years after his retirement, in 1989, he was arrested for attempting to smuggle cocaine, and then in 2002, Richard died in a car accident while returning from a party celebrating his fifth birthday.
