Kalle Lasn
Kalle Lasn is an Estonian-Canadian filmmaker, author, magazine publisher and activist. Towards the end of World War II, his family fled Estonia and Lasn spent some time in a German refugee camp. At the age of seven he moved to Australia with his family, where he grew up and remained until the late 1960s, studying at the Canberra School. In the late 1960s he founded a market research company in Tokyo and in 1970 moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. For twenty years he produced documentaries for PBS and the National Film Board of Canada. He currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is a co-founder of Adbusters magazine and author of the book Culture Jam and Design Anarchy and co-founder of the Adbusters Media Foundation, owner of the magazine. He allegedly started Adbusters after revealing that there was something deeply wrong with consumerism. It happened in a supermarket parking lot.
