Mary Elizabeth Hartman is an American theater and screen actress. She is known for her first performance in the 1965 film A Patch of Blue, playing a blind girl named Selina D'Arcy, opposite Sidney Poitier, for which she was nominated for an Oscar for Women. Best Actor and Golden Globe Award. for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama. The following year, she appeared in Francis Ford Coppola's You're a Big Boy Now as Barbara Darling, for which she was nominated for a second Golden Globe Award. Hartman also starred alongside Clint Eastwood and Geraldine Page in Don Siegel's The Beguiled and the 1973 film Walking Tall. On stage, Hartman is best known for her role as Laura Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie, for which she won. Ohio's "Actress of the Year" award, and Emily Webb in the 1969 film Our Town on Broadway. Hartman retired from acting in 1982 after voicing the character Mrs. Brisby in Don Bluth's first animated film, The Secret of NIMH.

For her portrayal in the 1964 film A Patch of Blue, she was nominated for three Academy Awards and won one in the Best Actress category.
