Artur Mas i Gavarró is a Spanish politician who is a Catalan nationalist. He was President of the Government of Catalonia from 2010 to 2015 and Acting President from September 2015 to January 12, 2016. Mas is a longtime member of the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia, who used to be a major member more of the two members - with the Unió Democràtica de Catalunya - since then a long-standing electoral coalition, the Convergència i Unió, a liberal nationalist coalition that has dominated the Catalan region since the years 1980. In 2001 Mas was appointed secretary-general of the CDC, then in 2012, he was appointed party chairman until the party was re-established in July 2016 as PDeCAT, where he served as president from July 2016 to January 2018. From 2003 to 2015, Mas directed the year. as Catalan president, four times to top the CiU ticket - now defunct - and a candidate for the coalition of the novel Junts pel Sí.
