Frances Wright, widely known as Fanny Wright, is a speaker, writer, liberal thinker, feminist, socialist utopia, abolitionist, reformer The Scottish social and philosopher Epicurean became an American citizen in 1825. The same year, she founded the Nashoba Commune in Tennessee, as an utopian community to show how to prepare slaves for final emancipation. but the project only lasted 5 years. In the late 1820s, Wright was the first female speaker to speak publicly before the gatherings of men and women in the United States on issues of political and social reform. She has advocated for universal education, slavery, birth control, equal rights, freedom of sex, legal rights for married women, and free divorce laws. Wright also spoke out against organized religion and the death penalty. The clergy and the press harshly criticized Wright's radical views.
