Jennifer Granholm
Jennifer Mulhern Granholm is a Canadian-American politician, lawyer, educator, author and commentator as the 16th United States Minister of Energy. A member of the Democratic Party, she was the 47th governor of Michigan from 2003 to 2011. She was the first woman to serve as governor of Michigan, and prior to that she served as Michigan's attorney general. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Granholm left Canada for California at the age of four. She attended the University of California at Berkeley, earned her BA in Literature in 1984, and later PhD in Law from Harvard Law School, where she is editor-in-chief of the Harvard Civil-Rights Law Journal. She later served as secretary to Judge Damon Keith of the US Court of Appeals for Round Six, becoming a US assistant advisor to the Eastern District of Michigan in 1991, and in 1995, she was appointed to board of the Wayne County Corporation.
