Keith Ellison
Keith Maurice Ellison is an American politician and lawyer who serves as Minnesota's 30th Attorney General. As a member of the Democratic Labor Party, Ellison served as the United States representative for Minnesota's 5th Electoral District from 2007 to 2019. He also served as the official vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2017 to 2018. In Congress, Ellison is the vice president of the Congressional Progressive Conference and vice president of the whip committee. He also serves on the House Committee on Financial Services. Ellison was the first Muslim to be elected to Congress and the first African-American representative from Minnesota. Ellison's profile was raised when he entered the race for Chairman of the Democratic National Committee in November 2016, receiving support from radical groups and US Senators Bernie Sanders and Chuck Schumer. His candidacy caused extensive scrutiny of past claims and his association with the Islamic State, which drew criticism from some moderate Democrats.
