She co-hosted the Daytime Dialogue on CTV The Social from 2017-2020. Previously, she was a CTV News reporter and co-aired on the CTV Canada AM Morning Show. On September 17, 2020, Ien was announced as the Free Party of Canada candidate in central Toronto for a sub-election to fill the seat vacated by former Treasury Secretary Bill Morneau. She won the sub-election on October 26, 2020, defeating the leader of the Green Party of Canada, Annamie Paul.
