Cornelia Genevive Gjesdal "Coya" Knutson is an American politician from the US state of Minnesota. She served two terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives, from 1951 to 1955, before winning an election to the United States House of Representatives for the 9th Congressional District of Minnesota as a member of the Citizens Party. She served two terms there, during the 84th and 85th Congresses. Knutson was the first woman to be elected to Congress from Minnesota, and the famous letter "Coya, Come Home" remembered today is believed to have been written by her ex-husband, Andy urging her to give up her seat and not reelected in 1958. Political opponents brought him up to speed, and this was seen as pivotal in his subsequent defeat. The incident is often regarded as an example of gender discrimination in American politics.
