Elliot Tapfumaneyi Manyika is a Zimbabwean politician who served as Minister of Non-Portfolio and National Political Commissioner of ZANU-PF. Born at the Rosa clinic in Chiweshe, Manyika attended primary school at Madombwe and Bare schools. After completing Standard Six at Bare, he studied at Kutama College. In 1974, he was arrested for being accused of writing and distributing subversion statements while awaiting his O-class results. He was sentenced to five years in prison, but was released after 18 months under strict conditions. Due to his detention, he was unable to progress to the advanced level. After Zimbabwe became independent from the UK, Manyika took exams, in which he also earned a degree in accounting and business from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He then studied for a Master in International Political Studies at the University of Bristol in England.
