From 1984 to 1985 he was captain of the Leeds club and holds the club's record as the club's youngest player and player to score the most goals with 238 goals in all competitions. He was voted Leeds ninth greatest player of all time and voted into Leeds United greatest team of all time. After retiring as a player, Lorimer became director of the Leeds board, commented on matches on BBC Radio Leeds and Yorkshire Radio, and wrote a regular column in the Yorkshire Evening Post. Since April 2013, he has held the position of club ambassador.
