Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Laxman, better known as R. K. Laxman, is an Indian animator, illustrator and comedian. He is best known for his work The Common Man and daily comic book You Said It in The Times of India, released in 1951. R. K. Laxman began his career as a part-time cartoonist, working primarily for local newspapers and magazines. When he was a student, he drew illustrations for his brother R. K. Narayan's stories in The Hindu. His first full-time job was to draw political cartoons for Free Press magazine in Mumbai. He then joined The Times of India and rose to fame for his character The Common Man, a character who became a turning point in Laxman's life.
