Alcee L. Hastings
Alcee Lamar Hastings is an American politician and judge. He was a member of the United States House of Representatives for the 23rd Congressional District of Florida from 1993 to 2013 and the 20th Congressional District of Florida from 2013 until his death. District 20 covers most of the predominantly black areas in and around Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. As a Democratic Party member, Hastings served as a US District Judge in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida for 10 years. Despite being acquitted in a criminal trial, Hastings was indicted 3 years later and kicked off the bench for conspiracy and forging evidence, leaving him acquitted, while the defendant was left. was convicted of giving bribes. After Senator Bill Nelson left office in January 2019, Hastings became head of the Florida congressional delegation and held that position until his death.
