Anatols Dinbergs is one of the most prominent Latvian diplomats. He began serving at the Latvian Foreign Ministry in 1932. Dinbergs remained abroad during the Soviet occupation of Latvia, serving in the Latvian Investigation Agency in Washington, DC, after the Second World War ended. The Dinbergs held the highest diplomatic post, Chargé d'affaires, in 1970 and represented Latvia's sovereign interests in exile until Latvia re-established independence in 1991. As head of Latvian diplomatic missions abroad, Dinbergs were appointed as Latvia's first ambassador to the United Nations, and later as Ambassador to Latvia to the United States. After retiring, he served as Counselor at the Latvian Embassy in Washington, D.C., until his death in 1993 .
