In the form of a personified black duck, the character has appeared in animated series such as Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, in which he is often depicted as a Bugs Bunny leaf. Daffy is one of the new "twist" characters to emerge in the late 1930s to replace traditionally popular characters that were more popular than at the start of the decade, like Mickey Mouse and Popeye. Daffy starred in 130 shorts in the Golden Age, making him the third regular character in the Looney Tunes / Merrie Melodies cartoon, after 167 appearances for Bugs Bunny and 153 appearances for Porky.
