In 1977, Mack won the Pulitzer Prize for his book A Prince of Our Disorder on T.E. Lawrence. As chief of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Mack's clinical expertise is child psychology, adolescent psychology, and religious psychology. He was also known as a leading researcher in the psychology of adolescent suicide and drug addiction, after which he became a psychologist on alien abduction experiences.
