Through production company The Archers, they have co-wrote, produced and directed a series of classic British films, including Colonel Blimp's Life and Death, A Canterbury Tale, I Know Where I'm Going !, A Matter of Life and Death, Black Narcisse, the red shoes and the tales of Hoffmann. His controversial 1960 Peeping Tom, now considered a classic and a contender for his first "killer" role, was vilified on its first release and his career was badly damaged. Many filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, and George A. Romero view Powell as an influencer. In 1981, he received the BAFTA Academy Scholarship Award with partner Pressburger, the highest honor the British Film Academy could bestow on a filmmaker.
