His most notable films include Amores perros, 21 Grams, Babel, Biutiful, Birdman and The Revenant. His first film, Amores Perros, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Grand Prize of Critics Week and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film 2000. His next and first US, 21 Grams, was screened at the 60th Venice International Film Festival, where Sean Penn won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards for actress Naomi Watts and supporting actor Benicio del Toro. In 2006, Babel entered a competition at the 59th Cannes Film Festival, where Iñárritu won the award for best director.
