Clyde Douglas "Bulldog" Turner is an American football player and trainer. As a player he was elected to College Football Fame Hall in 1960 and Professional Football Fame Hall in 1966. In 1969 he was also selected to the 1940s team of the NFL Team All-Decade. Turner played college football as a center at Hardin University - Simmons from 1937 to 1939 and was selected as the All-Mighty American in 1939. After being selected by the Chicago Bears in the first round of the NFL Draft in 1940, he played professional football for the Bears, primarily an attacking center and defensive back, for 13 years from 1940 to 1952. He was selected eight times on the All-Pro First Team and was a member of the Bears team. won the NFL Championships in 1940, 1941, 1943, and 1946. After his competitive career ended, Turner held assistant coaching positions for Baylor University and the Chicago Bears. He was the head coach of the New York Titans of the American Football League during the 1962 AFL season.
