Claude Alexander Allen Jr. is an American lawyer appointed by George W. Bush as Assistant to the President of the United States on Housing Policy. Allen grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University Law School. He began his legal career in 1990 as secretary to a federal judge, then as an associate with Baker Botts from 1991 to 1995 and in the Virginia Attorney General's office from 1995 to 1998. From 1998 to 2001, Allen was Minister of Health. and Human Services for the State of Virginia, then became Under Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services under the George W. Bush administration. Allen was appointed deputy chairman in January 2005. Allen then resigned on February 9, 2006, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family.
