David Trimble
William David Trimble, Baron Trimble, PC, was a politician who served as Northern Ireland's first prime minister from 1998 to 2002, and was the leader of the Ulster Unionist party from 1995 to 2005. He is also a member. of Congress to the Upper Bann from 1990 to 2005 and a member of the Upper Bann Legislative Assembly from 1998 to 2007. In 2006, he became a counterpart in the House of Representatives and a year later left UUP to join the party. Conservative. Trimble began his career as a professor of law at Queen's University, Belfast in the 1970s, during which time he began joining the paramilitary Vanguard Progressive Alliance Party. He was elected to the Constitutional Council of Northern Ireland in 1975 and joined the UUP in 1978 after the dissolution of the VPUP. At Queen's College he continued his academic career until he was elected Upper Bann Congressman in 1990
