Edward Laurence Doheny is an American oil magnate who successfully drilled his first well in 1892 at the Los Angeles City oil field. His success exploded oil in Southern California and made him rich when, in 1902, he sold his fortune. He then began highly profitable oil operations in Tampico, Mexico's "golden belt", drilling the country's first well in 1901. He expanded his operations during the Mexican Revolution. and opening new oil fields at Lake Maracaibo. His stake evolved into Lien My Petroleum & Transportation Company, one of the world's largest oil companies in the 1920s. During the 1920s, Doheny became embroiled in the teapot scandal and accused of pouring $ 100,000 in bribes to US Home Secretary Albert Fall. Doheny was acquitted twice for bribery, but Fall was convicted of accepting bribes.
