Elaine Stritch is an American actress and singer, best known for her work on the Broadway stage. She appeared on the professional scene in 1944 and appeared in numerous plays, musicals, feature films and television series. She was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1995. Stritch made her Broadway debut in the 1946 comedy Loco and received four Tony Award nominations: for William's play Bus Stop. Inge; the Christmas musical Coward Sail Away; music company Stephen Sondheim, which includes a performance of his song "The Ladies Who Lunch"; and for the rebirth of the play Edward Albee, A Delicate Balance. Ms. Elaine Stritch's solo performance at Liberty won the 2002 Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event. Stritch moved to London in the 1970s and appeared in a number of West End productions, including Tennessee Williams' Little Handcrafted Warning and Neil Simon's The Gingerbread Lady.
