Grete Waitz is a Norwegian marathon runner and a former world record player. In 1979, she became the first woman in history to run a marathon in less than two and a half hours. She won nine New York Women's Marathons between 1978 and 1988, more than any other athlete in history. She won a silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and a gold medal at the 1983 World Championship in Helsinki. His other marathon victories included winning the 1983 and 1986 London Marathon. He is also the person who won the world championship 5 times. Waitz has won 12 world marathons, the most for all athletes.
