He is best known for his series of stories on the future history of mankind and terror and a shorter series of alternate history stories "Paratime". He wrote under the name of H. Beam Piper. Another source said his name was "Horace Beam Piper" and another date dead. His gravestone reads "Henry Beam Piper". Piper himself may have been the source of some confusion; He tells everyone that the H stands for Horace, encouraging the theory that he uses the initials because he doesn't like his name. On a copy of Little Fuzzy given to Charles O. Piper, Beam's cousin and performer, he wrote "Dear Charles of Henry".
