Horace Julian Bond
Horace Julian Bond is an American social activist, civil rights movement leader, politician, teacher and writer. While still a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, in the early 1960s, he helped set up the Nonviolent Student Coordination Committee. In 1971, he helped found the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama, and was its first president in nearly a decade. Bond was elected to four terms in the Georgia House of Representatives and then elected to six terms in the Georgia State Senate, serving a total of twenty years in both legislative chambers. From 1998 to 2010, he was president of the National Association for the Advancement of People of Color.
