Isaac Brock

Major General Sir Isaac Brock KB is a British Army officer and Colony Administrator from Guernsey. Brock was appointed to Lower Canada in 1802. Despite desertion and death, he successfully commanded his regiment in Upper Canada for many years. He was promoted to major general and became responsible for the defense of Upper Canada against the United States. While many in Canada and Britain believed the war could be stopped, Brock began to prepare his army and militia for what was to come. When the War of 1812 broke out, the people were prepared, and swift victories at Fort Mackinac and Detroit defeated American attempts to invade. Brock's actions, especially his success in Detroit, won him high praise, including his title of Knight of the Order of the Bath and the title of "Hero of Upper Canada." His name is often associated with that of Native American chief Tecumseh, although the two only cooperated directly for a few days.
