Jeanie Marie Buss is an American sports executive, owner and president of the Los Angeles Lakers National Basketball Association. Buss is the daughter of Jerry Buss, a real estate investor who later owned the Lakers and other sports businesses. At the age of 19, she started the family business as general manager of the professional tennis team Los Angeles Strings. Buss later became the owner of the Los Angeles Blades professional roller hockey team. She was also president of the Great Western Forum before becoming vice president of the Lakers. After Buss' father passed away in 2013, his majority ownership of the Lakers passed to his six children through a family trust, with each brother receiving one vote. Buss succeeded as team president and represented the Lakers on the NBA board of governors. In 2020, she became the first female controller owner to lead her team to the NBA Championship.
