Jim Leach
James Albert Smith Leach is an American scholar and former politician. He was the ninth chair of the National Foundation for the Humanities from 2009 to 2013 and a member of the US House of Representatives from Iowa. Leach is John L. Weinberg Visiting Professor of Public and International Affairs at Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University. He was also Acting Director of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University from September 17, 2007 to September 1, 2008, when Bill Purcell was appointed Permanent Director. Before that, Leach spent 30 years as a Republican member of the US House of Representatives, representing Iowa's District 2 Congressional Area. In Congress, Leach chaired the House Committee on Banking and Finance Services and a senior member of the House Committee on International Relations, as the Chair of the Subcommittee on Asian Affairs and the Pacific Ocean.
