Johan Willem van Hulst is the Dutch school principal, university professor, author, politician and chess player. In 1943, with the help of the Dutch resistance and students from the nearby University of Amsterdam, he was credited with saving over 600 Jewish children from the Hollandsche Schouwburg orphanage, who were deported to concentration camps. Nazis. For his humanitarian acts, he was awarded the title of Yad Vashem as a righteous man among the nations of the State of Israel in 1973. Van Hulst was Senator of the Netherlands from July 1956 to June 1981. He was elected head of the historic Christian Union Parliament in the Senate from December 1968 to June 1977, when CHU merged with the Christian Democratic Party.
