John Foster Dulles is an American diplomat, lawyer and Republican politician. He was Secretary of State under President Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1959 and briefly served as US Senator in New York in 1949. He was a key figure at the beginning of the Cold War, advocating an active stance against Communism around the world. Born in Washington, D.C., Dulles joined the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell in New York after graduating from George Washington University Law School. His grandfather, John W. Foster, and his uncle, Robert Lansing, both served as Secretary of State, while his brother, Allen Dulles, served as Central Intelligence Director from 1953 to 1961. John Foster Dulles served during the war. Industrial Council of World War I and US legal advisor to the Paris Peace Conference in 1919. He became a member of the Federation of Free Nations, which advocates for Americans becoming a member of the Federation of Nations.
