Kristina Ann Kowal is a former American competitive swimmer, Olympic medalist and former world record holder. Kowal represented the United States at the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics, winning a silver medal in the 200-meter frog swim. She was the first American to win the world title in the 100-meter frog swimming. Kowal helped her varsity team, the University of Georgia Georgia Bulldogs swim and diving team, win two NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. She was an NCAA swimmer in 1999 and 2000. Kowal was the first American woman to cross the one-minute barrier in the 100-yard frog swim. She won eight NCAA titles and 10 national swimming titles in the United States. During her college career, she held 8 US records and one world record. In 2000, she was named the NCAA Woman of the Year and was awarded the Top VIII of the Year as a Class of 2001, which honors eight student-athletes.
