His brother, Lee Sang-deuk, is a South Korean politician. He attended the Presbyterian Church in Somang. Lee graduated from Korea University and received an honorary degree from Paris Diderot University on May 13, 2011. Lee changed the Korean government's approach to North Korea, preferring a harsher strategy . China and Japan. Under Lee, Korea increased its visibility and influence on the world stage, leading to the hosting of the G-20 summit in Seoul in 2010.
