Ismael Ruiz Hernández, also known as Maelo Ruiz, is a salsa romántica singer of Puerto Rican origin in New York. Maelo Ruiz was born in New York City, but at the age of 4 he moved with his family to Puerto Rico, where his parents were born. He joined music at the age of 16 when he started singing in "Escuela Libre de Música de Caguas". But it wasn't until the age of 19 that Maelo Ruiz really started a professional musical career by becoming the lead singer of Pedro Conga and his international orchestra. He's been with Pedro Conga for 7 years, recording four albums with the band. His greatest success with Pedro Conga was "No Te Quites La Ropa", which sold over 50,000 copies and brought the band their first yellow record in Puerto Rico. The following hits include "Atrévete", "Vicio", "Quiero Volver", "Si Supieras", "Te Quiero Amor" and "Me Niegas Tanto Amor". These successes are what made Maelo Ruiz a name in Latin America.
