Marion Rushing is an American professional footballer. Born in Pinckneyville, Illinois, he played nine and a half seasons in the National Football League, primarily for the Chicago Cardinals / St. Louis Cardinal. He ended his professional football career in 1968 with the Houston Oilers of the American Football League. While studying at Southern Illinois University, Rushing earned more sports letters than any other athlete in Saluki history. He won a total of 13 letters playing soccer, basketball, track and field and wrestling for the SIU. After his career at SIU, Rushing continued to play professionally in the NFL and AFL. He was introduced to the commando class of the Saluki Hall of Fame in 1978. In 2010, the University of Southern Illinois honored the Saluki Marion Rushing Hall of Fame by renaming a street near the new football stadium, the Marion Rushing Lane.
