Nicolás Leoz Almirón was President of CONMEBOL from 1986 to 2013. Leoz assumed the presidency in 1986 and in February 2006, he was re-elected President for a sixth term. He is Paraguay and received Colombian citizenship in 2008. On April 23, 2013, Leoz resigned as FIFA Executive Committee and CONMEBOL president, citing health. Before being President of CONMEBOL, Leoz was President of the Justice Department of the Paraguayan Basketball Federation, President of Paraguay Football Club Libertad, President of Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol and Vice-President of CONMEBOL. In November 2010, he was accused by the BBC of accepting bribes in the 1990s in connection with the awarding of World Cup television rights. In May 2015, Leoz was banned by the FIFA Ethics Committee.
