Paul Alan Hunter is a professional British snooker. He was a three-time Masters champion, a tournament champion in 2001, 2002 and 2004, recovering from a deficit final to win 10–9 out of the three. He also won three ranked tournaments: the Welsh Open in 1998 and 2002, and the British Open in 2002. During the 2004-05 snooker season, he reached a career high rank of number 4 in the world. In March 2005, Hunter was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor, but continued to play for several months. He passed away just before his 28th birthday in October 2006. In his memory, a tournament in Fürth, Germany was renamed the Paul Hunter Classic and in April 2016 the Masters Trophy was renamed the Paul Hunter Trophy. An excellent assist player, he has achieved a total of 114 clearances over the century, the highest of which was 146 in the 2004 Premier League
