Peter Thomas King is a former American politician who represented New York in the US House of Representatives from 1993 to 2021. It represents a district of South Shore Long Island that includes parts of Nassau and Suffolk County and is numbered District 3 and then District 2. King was formerly chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, where he drew attention in early 2011 for holding hearings on the extremes of American Muslims. He resigned due to term limits of the Republican Conference, but remained a member of the Commission. On November 11, 2019, King announced that he will not run again in the 2020 election and will retire after the end of his current term. He resigns from the Financial Services Commission on January 15, 2020. King also serves on the House Standing Committee on Intelligence.
