Roger Frederick Wicker is a United States lawyer and United States Senator from Mississippi, in office since 2007. As a member of the Republican Party, Wicker was previously a member of the United States House of Representatives and the Mississippi State Senate. Born in Pontotoc, Mississippi, Wicker graduated from the University of Mississippi and Mississippi Law School. He was an officer in the United States Air Force from 1976 to 1980 and a member of the United States Air Force Reserve from 1980 to 2003. During the 1980s, he served as a political advisor to the Rep. Trent Lott then at the House Rules Committee. . In 1987, Wicker was elected to the Mississippi State Senate, representing District 6, including Tupelo. Wicker was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1994, succeeding longtime Rep. Jamie Whitten.
