Ramirez's breakthrough came with her portrayal of the original Lady of the Lake in the Broadway musical Spamalot in 2005, winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Ramírez was asked to pick his own prime-time TV show from a series of ABC lineups, choosing Grey's Anatomy. They portrayed Dr. Callie Torres, the most enduring LGBT character in American television history, appearing in 11 seasons and 239 episodes.
