Shane Geoffrey Jones is a New Zealand politician. He was a MP on New Zealand's first list from 2017 to 2020. Jones was previously a Labor MP from 2005-2014. Jones served as cabinet minister in New Zealand's Fifth Labor Government. He challenged the leadership of the Labor Party in a leadership election in 2013, but lost to rival David Cunliffe. He left parliament in late May 2014. Jones was New Zealand's first candidate for the Whangarei position in the 2017 general election; he was ranked eighth on the New Zealand First Party list and returned to parliament following the 23 September 2017 elections. In October 2017, Jones was appointed minister in the Lao coalition government. First Movement New Zealand, which holds the Infrastructure, Forestry and Regional categories. Economic development. In October 2020, Jones challenged Northland voters but was defeated. His NZ First party also lost seats in parliament, down below the 5% parliamentary threshold.
