Valdas Adamkus
Valdas Adamkus is a Lithuanian politician. He was president of Lithuania from 1998 to 2003 and again from 2004 to 2009. In Lithuania, the presidency lasted five years; Adamkus' first term began on February 26, 1998 and ended on February 28, 2003, following a defeat by Rolandas Paksas in the next presidential election. Paksas was later removed from office and dismissed by a parliamentary vote on April 6, 2004. Soon after, when a new election was announced, Adamkus ran for president again and was re-elected. His approval rating is very high and he is considered a body of ethics by the state. He was replaced as President on July 12, 2009 by Dalia Grybauskaitė. He is considered by some to be Lithuania's best president in modern history. He is married to Alma Adamkienė, who is participating in charitable activities in Lithuania.
