Victor J. Ghezzi is an American professional golfer. Born in Rumson, New Jersey, Ghezzi won 11 PGA Tour championships, including a major title, the 1941 PGA Championship, where he beat Byron Nelson in 38 holes in the final. It was selected in three Ryder Cups, 1939, 1941 and 1943, but each was canceled due to World War II. During the war, Ghezzi enlisted in the US Army and began training in early 1942. At the US Open in 1946, he competed in the 18-hole playoffs on Sunday morning with Lloyd Mangrum and Nelson. It ended with a tie at three, forcing another 18 holes. Mangrum won the round this afternoon in a fall over Ghezzi and Nelson. Ghezzi was elected to the PGA of America Hall of Fame in 1965. He died of cancer at the age of 65 at the Miami Heart Institute in Miami Beach, Florida.
